Christmas greetings from Tir Conaill Harps in Glasgow. If any of your teams are considering trips in the coming year , please keep us in mind. You will probably be aware that having visiting teams is essential to our survival. Adult teams might consider the weekend of 5th April, which co-incides with our annual awards dinner in the Holiday Inn. The hotel is doing a special rate that weekend. Good luck in 2003 www.conaill.fsnet.co.uk

where do we go from here lads? whats the next game? i hear rumours of a playoff this weekend in pearse park for the league final, is this true? is it just me or do ballymahon really only have 6 attacking footballers capable of starting in the first 15. there was an evident lack of striking options last weekend. AIR:DANNY BOY
Oh Dessies boys, the Connolly Cup is calling
Terlicken, Drynan, Town and out Rathmore.
Our stalwart men from far and near are rolling,
Tis you, tis you must play and we must roar.
But come ye back with cup and crown and glory
Then Ballymahon holds its in pride.
And we'll be here to live and tell your story.
The Connolly cup the Connolly cup for Inny's side

Then when ye come with red and white flags flying,
And I am hoarse as hoarse I well may be.
When young and old may laugh or may be crying
You'll feel the joy,of people filled with glee.
And you shall hear how loud we roar above you
South Longford's town will write your history.
With hand on heart we'll tell you that we love you.
And we'll all taste
the sweetest taste of

I hear Ballymahon due to their inability to provide football for all players willing to play have lost yet another player to forgney for next year.He has even started training with the "fairies" even though he was training with ballymahon during the year. The transfer market will be flooded next year. How many more will make the move away from the club before the problem is looked into ?Well I suppose if Ballymahon can transfer players in there is no reason why players should not transfer out, now is there ? Any comments on this recent revelation ?

Ballymahon have to start using the panel of players that mare at the disposal of a very one track team of selectors. That match against Dromard was another display of how far Ballymahon have come in the last year. While the defence are not the worst in the county, that honour has to given to the forwards. If thats the best that can be offered then there is no championship this year.Do we have to wait until the A.G.M to get something done ? i go to most ballymahon games and i observed that a certain few subs seem to have no reason to continue training because they never seem to get a game. maybe i'm wrong and they don't deserve a game because they havn't been training. but as far as i know they turn up regularly and get no reward for it. I understand that some of the subs are not first 15 material but even so, why don't they replace some of the tired or poor-performing first team in the closing 20 mins of a game?? what do you think of this?? best of luck on saturday to ballymahon and the leinster champions.

the team must have a realistic chance in winning the championship now,it may not have been good to watch against dromard but its the result that counts.progress has definitly being made on last year and there is a serious panel to pick from,a first senior semi final in 30 odd years cant be half bad either.in saying that not evryone is getting games which is unfortunate.when are the div5 semis and the next div 3 game or have we pulled out of that anyway well done all

Not sure about div 3, no story with Des, he said before the game that he had to go early. KFC, in a league or championship match there has never been more that 3 points between ourselves and Carrick in the last few years, last years result in the McCormack Cup was when they were minus a number of key players, I aggree we can win, but it's a local derby, e.g. Meath never hammer Louth in championship football even though they're usually much better, on a different standard the same things apply. Carrick always rise themselves for us and vice versa. Not sure where the game is, initially thought it was down for Carrick, but heard last weekend that it's in Leo Casey Park. Will no for sure tonight I guess.

Also on the team results, division 5 side has won all their games and division 3 hasn't being going too bad. Word of warning for this weekend, anyone who thinks it will be easy will be sorely mistaken on Saturday evening. Carrick were only narrowly defeated by Rathcline in the championship, a Rathcline side many think can win the Connolly Cup, with championship only a few days away, cool heads will be required.

what a turn around from kast wkend as ballymahon showed they can mix it wit the best in longford and minus good few important players.we will show the begrudgers in longford that a south longford team will lift the connolly cup its the best team ballymahon had in years. drumlish can thank the ref for the draw yesterday. what a soft free colin should have got an oscar for his dive. all i can say is that hope we hammer carrick this wkend and put them bac down where they belong division 2. well done the rat wit the win ye had over them. come on the fairys and win the junoir championship and division 3. then ye will put those carrick boys down to division 3. the thing i have 2 say is lets bring bac the good old days as we had at underage level where every team in the county feared us. lets start this year wit the connolly and maybe the leader cup.COME ON THE REDS From - d fairy

in fairness the team spirit and attitude in the camp is good and the results have been better especially in the senior league, after fours games against mostrim,fr manning gaels, granard and rathcline the team has picked up 7 pts out of a possible 8 in comparison to 0 from the same teams last year and the semi finals were just missed out on so that tells its own story.it is vitally important though the team gets over dromard in the quarter final get thru that and a full panel to pick from for the semi final drumlish or rathcline would not fancy the thought of meeting the'reds'good luck against carrickedmond at the weekend

Firstly, ken lovell, suspended, emmet fox, injured, mark lennon was playing, eoin browne, was a sub, alan hudson, injured, brian cooney, injured.

Also the spirit within the team is fine. There are a number of tounge in cheek slagging going around alright, but I think all the players are putting in the effort and playing for each other on the field. Hopefully that will continue for the rest of the year.

as a former player of yesteryear and still a supporter of the best club in longford i am saddened to see that not much has changed in terms of attitude around ballymahon. this year by all accounts ballymahon seem to have a great chance of winning the county champiuonship, yet if the comments being left here on this site are anything to go by there is as much spirit in the team and supporters as there is in that stupid big brother house. the team is there to represent the town and the first fifteen represent the whole panel of players. if you are good enough you will be picked and if not picked then it is up to you to show the management the mistake when you get your chance , not sulking like a baby and bitching like little girls. as we have seen in the world cup its not always the team picked in the first game that make up the team that wins the final and its not always the so called "stars" who excel. As regards supporters if you are going to a match go there to support the team not to give out about players. The players are giving their best and you either werent good enough to play, or had your own chance , so give them your support and then we can all enjoy ballymahons championship. GOOD LUCK LADS.

Firstly, any suggestion that Trevor should transfer is calous and unnessecary. Secondly, if you look at last years team sheets, Trevor played in most games, granted he missed one or two near the end, but he certainly wasn't the only crucial player to be missing in some of those games. He certainly played in the crucial games before up to November. Thirdly, the majority of training sessions we had this year coincided with county training, our other county Longford player who rarely misses training attended few sessions because of committment to the county. I can't speak for how other players feel, the ones I've talked to are very disappointed we won't have Trevor, but realistically as one player said, how many people would go too if given the oppertunity. I wish Trevor was playing with us this summer, but he won't be so best of luck in the States Trevor, hope to see you back with us playing when you come home. It's up to the rest of us to buckle down for the championship.

if its true about trevor going to america he should transfer for good he is no good to ballymahon and always goes missing when he is needed most.the club dont need players who dont want to play for them.this year is the best chance ballymahon have in the championship they will just have to do it without him and are more than capable.players should always put their club before their county but trevor obviously sees differently.ballymahon should forget about him ever playing for the club again unless he is changes his attitude in the future.he never trains with the team so doesnt deserve selection we all know he is a good athlete, if he is getting well paid good luck to him.you only have to look at the ability of frankie dolan to know he is worth much more.you can not play as a team if individuals are in it.these may be harsh words but its the general feeling going around. ballymahon and trevor smullen have ! no future at this time.if its true that the turnouts at training have been good of late the team will take a lot of stopping

It all depends on when Longford seniors are playing next. If they don't draw the losers of Dublin v Meath, they'll be playing Saturday week so no senior game till after that, if they do draw the losers of Dublin Meath we may have a senior match next Tuesday (I think). Longford juniors play this Sunday, good luck to Simon and Mark with that. I think we've division 5 this Saturday vs Kenagh.

i guess what mikasa wacka is trying to say is that ballymahon may not get in too many vital senior games before the championship.im sure he really wishes longford well but remember what happened last year with fixtures going on til november and being played weeks apart - that effectively cost ballymahon a place in the top four of the leader cup indeed well done on the new site will that include the under 21 amalgamation or is it just for minor??

From - KFC

31-05-02
Firstly, I think it's div 5 at least this weekend and next weekend, maybe div 3 as well, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Secondly, cheers for the mention on the minor club page, that will hopefully develop over the months into a site in itself. Third and most importantly, I take issue with anyone from Longford, wishing for Longford to be beaten, they're still our represent us as Longford people on the field, the players put in a huge effort and although they may never win an all-Ireland, the least they deserve from us is a little encouragement. Our senior games will get up and running and they will be over the best months of the year weather wise, so let's all row in behind the county footballers while we can.

indeed well said big green giant but even though there was 12/13 at training the past few weeks it has been good from a first team point of view considering all that are out injured.the management might just have a fair idea of the team in their minds.in my opinion there is not more than 20 players in the club who will be there when it comes to the senior league and championship.almost everyone who has trained recently wont be far off the starting 15.there has been nothing like the recent bad weather to seperate the committed from the sunshine div3/5 footballers and thats what them divisions are there for.it is good to see frankie training and hopefully trevor and the rest of the panel will get over their injuries.im sure when the league does start up again the team will get lots of momentum and will be hard to stop.its all there on a plate there is no one to fear

Cashel and Rathcline do not hate each other. The person underneath is misunderstanding the relationship between the clubs. On the pitch - it's war, complete war. Off the pitch we drink in each others pubs, many are related to each other, many are friends with each other, many are married to each other. This perception of hate is nonsense and I sense it resides with the younger generation of cashels and rats - the minors, u-21's I think. I, as a rat would like any south longford side to do well, including ballymahon so well done on beating us and good luck the rest of the year.

its time for the seniors to start showing their commitment.some people thought the days of low turn-outs at training were over but have become only too evident in recent weeks,10,11 or 12 people training is a disgrace.b--ls--t excuses and good weather men wont win anything, never mind a championship, good to see frankie training, maybe his presence can encourage others to start delivering

mikey im not runniing the club down but why do players who have played for the ballymahon 1st team at some point transfer to forgney what is the reason?ballymahon has three teams are these players not good enough thats not the reason.most players who have transfered though have come down from intermediate like yourself, shane ledwith and thomas mcloughlin. ballymahon are a senior club for the last 2 years with bobby keegan being the only senior footballer to have transfered from ballymahon.the days of ballymahon in the intermediate are long gone as are the bad footballers that have playyed with them and from watching a refreshing young team so far this year a senior championship might not be very far away.what are the hopes of forgney this year they were comprehensively annihilated by rathcline last year.ye do have some good players most notably mark connor who is an excellent marksman but hell never be a great player unless he tests himself at senior level which i! m sure he will one day

Hi all, there is a new page on the site now for the minor club. It has only been started today and will over the summer develop into a complete site for the Ballymahon-Fogney Gaels Minor club. I've got the ball rolling by getting a review of the u-16 team to date, but will be approaching people to do something similar for both the u-14 and minor teams. So go back to the main page of the site and click on the link for the minor club.

KFC, Just been told that I got a mention on the Ballymahon Website,so I thought that I would have a read. While eveyone has the right to express their veiw in what ever manner they want,I would suggest that you clafify which players from those that you mentioned are not senior or intermeditae players. As far as i know most of them played on the Ballymahon 1st team at some stage!!!And presently there is only two players from Ballymahon playing on the Forgney Team,as the rest are either injured or like myself suspended, and Forgney are still able to feild 15 players and 5 or 6 subs, don't run down the Forgney Club, you don't know what goes on there, look after your own end of things and we will look after ours.Get your facts right in the future, Mikey Farrell

bobby keegan, mikey farrell, thomas mcloughlin, michael delaney, brian lynch, shane ledwith joe o toole and enda duncan to name but a few from ballymahon have all been involved at some stage with forgney which is a lot.maybe they left because of a lack of first team football who knows?.mind you maybe one or two of them would benefit the ballymahon second or third string teams well maybe the third string.im sure forgney has one or two from carrickedmond too namely darren murray(i could be wrong)but others have gone the other way from forgney philip quinn to ballymahon and the ushers(who really should be involved with ballymahon/forgney at underage)to carrickedmond.one could say forgney wouldnt have a team without ballymahon.would a future amalgamation at senior level help matters?or is there too much bitterness?maybe you have to hand it some fellas for taking the plunge and facing up to reality that they are not senior or intermediate footballers no matter how hard they! try but then again question others who score 8/9 points in every game for junior teams like forgney and have no ambition to test themselves at senior level.does anyone have anything to add??

Not sure when the next game will be KFC, it's very dependant on the county team, I would guess it would be at least till after June 8th (unless they throw one in next Wednesday, which would be in todays leader which anyone at home can check). Ballymahon people should start taking a bit more notice to the u.16 team they have played 6 games and won 6 games. Yesterday the 20th of may they played carrick sarsfields and defeated them on a scorline of 5-7 to 1-13.The most influential for ballymahon were Colm Flynn Danny Maher Ronan O Toole who was suffering from a suvere case of the flu and still scored 2 goals the second one in which was a gem of a strike. The team is managed by Albert Fallon and Mike Cooney and could well be on their way to the Division 2 title.

I think you're getting a bit ahead of yourself there, we're not exacly a club fielding all stars throughout the field, and you pretty much contradict yourself, saying "I hope ballymahon will be able to field in Division 3", that means we need numbers, as far as I'm concerned all players who left would be welcome back, the question to be asked is why did they leave in the first place. The Ballymahon players who have been training over the last few years have all improved their skills and ability and the same would be said for any player who would come back into the set up.

No it is not a joke, we are playing in division 3. I'm not sure exactly how the panel will be drawn up, but it is certainly initially based on players who didn't play championship last year. I would assume the idea is to give fringe players alot more games, last year div 5 was over at the beginning of May, this year granted, it will go on a bit longer, but it means there will be football there for all the summer for all players, after all we are a football club and this will allow players more games. It may be a stuggle to get 15 from time to time, but at least there will be games for all. I don't hold sway with the theory we will get hammered all the time either, one look at last years division three table will tell you that Ballymahon would be well able to compete there.

Well said KFC, well said. Hopefully the final 15 selection on a match day justly reflects on those who were giving their all when training. Also, those with a positive attitude should be rewarded an not, as KFC said, those who think they just have to turn up on the day to get a game.

2 selctors or 10 selectors the bottom line is everyone has to train and train consistently, only a handful of people are doing that.its very easy to look for a scapegoat when things arent going well one or two players get dropped/substituted and then take the easy way out either that or claim to be injured,it will turn out to be their loss there is no place for fellas with that attitude at senior level those who think they have a right to be in the team are in for a shock

That last statement is a ridiculus suggestion and nothing could be further from the truth. Both Eoin and Pierce were togged and on the line with the rest of the team. Pierce is still recovering from an injury. Also in fairness to the management, they did try a few changes in the second half moving John O'Callaghan up the field, Granard had brought back all bar the full forward line to crowd out the defense so that we couldn't get the goal we needed unless we got a lucky break. Putting John'O to the box meant an extra physical presence in there, but we didn't get the break. The goal changed everything so my bad judgement is more to blame than anyone elses.

Is it true that Mr.Brown & Mr. Cox refused to play as subs against granard? This outrageous and serious action should be taken against that kind of attitude? Neither player is in top form at the moment(to put it mildly), and should take all the gameplay they can get. They need the practice...!

after a promising start to the first half, the second half against granard was simply a very bad performance. the game was lost in the space of a few minutes when granard got the soft goal and the few handy points they scored in quick succession after that. the lads never recovered. The eh, "management" seemed unable to make any sort of effective changes to the gameplan (surprise, surprise!). The "management" should also note that the players get enough abuse from spectators without their mentors roaring at them. A bit of encouragement may be more apt, i think.

the semi final defeat by granard was a dissappointment the team has only themselves to blame the sufficent numbers needed at training for the final push at these stages of any knockout competiition werent there the past few weeks, the team has been doing well up to now but at the end of the day the work is done in training, now we have to start again and think about the league and championship lets hope we learn our lesson and are properly prepared in the coming months whatever about exams and work and all thats fair enough but if theres a will people will find a way.the bertie allen may be mickey mouse to some but it was there for the taking if 25/30 and not 10/12 had put in the effort.the chapionship is there on a plate no team would stop us if we got it together its a shame seeing young talent wasted

It'll be a little trickier to put up a div 5 table as, all other div 5 results aren't communicated accross the county as quickly. Also, it isn't played as smoothly e.g. we've two games played, some teams 1, some teams none. If the results which are on the Longford GAA website (and in the Indo and a few other websites) are true, then Ballymahon are 3 points clear of Fr Manning Gaels and 1 clear of Mostrim and Colmcille with the match vs FMG left, which would leave us in the semis. Well done to the lads for a fine win over cashel. i'm sure the victory is sweeter to those lads who were beaten by cashel in all those underage finals a few years ago. Although we beat cashel by a convincing margin, we could have scored a lot more. There were quite a few wides kicked, especially in the first half. This goes to show the potential damage we can do if our forward line settle and take their scores. Well done to all.

I would just like to say that its a disgrace that the "management" (notice the inverted commas) and trainer did not turn up to the challenge game against Bun Brosna last Friday. Willie Forbes seems to the only dedicated member of the team mentors. The whole point of that game was to give the subs an oppertunity to show their abilities so that they may promote themselves to the first 15 on the team. BUT with the absense of selectors it was, in one way, a pointless exercise as the subs were not seen by those who have the power to integrate them into a first team position. However, the game did offer some much needed game time to certain players, i still think that it defeated the purpose because of the previously mentioned reasons.Best of luck against Cashel.
